Difficult Art-Making

This past Monday, I was working on a solo that is a choreographic expression of how my body manifests anxiety and depression. When creating choreography for this piece, I am very conscious about what I want to expose as my reality of experiencing anxiety and depression, and what I want to expose through my movement to the audience. This process of making this solo is one of the most difficult tasks I have yet to complete as an artist. I am releasing a part of myself into the world that I have never shared before. It is hard to produce. Maybe it is difficult to watch. And it is uncomfortable. But, it is through this process of making that I am able to discover my true creative process, because the subject is my true self. Difficult art-making can lead to beautiful results.
